The Goodyear Excellence RFT is the run flat variant of a grand touring summer tire that was developed as an original equipment tire for drivers who want a combination of a very appealing appearance, great handling, strength, durability, and traction, be it wet or dry. Although the Goodyear Excellence RFT is a grand touring run flat tire, it is still only a summer tire. And like other summer tires it shouldn’t be driven in near freezing temperatures, through snow or ice. The handling characteristics of the tire are attributed, in part, to the speed rating on the tires. The speed rating on the Goodyear Excellence RFT is also an H or higher, meaning that for the drivers most sporty cars, coupes, and sedans, it will be more than capable of handling whatever you throw at it. The three wide center circumferential ribs help to provide the traction and all season capabilities that Goodyear was looking for when designing this tire. The large cross cut grooves in the tread blocks help to move water away from the contact patch of the tire, helping to improve the resistance to hydroplaning, while also improving dry traction. Whereas the outside shoulder blocks help to stiffen the ride when cornering, and straight line tracking. In the event of a flat tire the Goodyear Excellence RFT can still be driven, but should be kept to a limit of 50 miles and at speeds of 50 mph, and will need to be replaced even if internal damage doesn’t occur. The tire's internal structure features twin steel belts reinforced by nylon for strength and high-speed durability.
