The ExtremeContact DW is one of Continental's max performance summer tires, that was developed for the drivers of high end sports cars, sports coupes, and high performance sedans. The ExtremeContact DW was designed to deliver excellent ride quality and superb performance on both dry and wet roads. As with all summer tires, the ExtremeContact DW should not be driven in near-freezing temperatures, on ice or snow. All Continental ExtremeContact DW tires have an asymmetric tread design with stiff tread blocks and a continuous, outside rib to enhance responsiveness and help improve stability while cornering. Circumferential center ribs help to prevent road noise and also control the extreme forces experienced when braking. Deep circumferential tread grooves and notched outside shoulder blocks help to eject the water to give the Continental ExtremeContact DW excellent wet traction grip and superb protection against hydroplaning. The ExtremeContact DW has notched letters molded into the tread of the tire, to alert drivers of the tire's wear levels. When the “DW” is visible in the tread, this indicates that the tire has the necessary tread depth for both wet and dry roads. When only the “D” is showing, this indicates that the tire should only be driven on dry surfaces. The tire's structure includes twin steel belts, reinforced with a nylon cap that helps to maintain strength while under high speed conditions. The reinforced twin steel belts also help to reduce weight, and promote better wear across the tire.
