The Bridgestone Potenza RE040 RFT is an ultra-high performance runflat summer tire made as the original equipment for a number of high performance sports cars and sports coupes. The RE040 RFT tire was created to provide drivers with good traction, predictable dry handling, responsiveness and great wet road handling. As a runflat summer tire these cannot be driven through snow or ice and cannot be driven on surfaces that are at temperatures close to freezing. The exterior of these tires features a high grip tread compound that has been molded into a directional tread design. Being a runflat tire, the Potenza RE040 RFT has the capability to drive for 50 miles, at 50 MPH, after a puncture, allowing you to drive to an auto repair provider. There is also a continuous center rib along with large tread blocks that are rectangular in shape both of which help to provide high speed stability, responsive handling and traction on wet and dry roads. There are also the lateral and circumferential tread grooves that help to reduce hydroplaning by pushing the water away from the footprint of the tire thus improving the tires wet traction. On the interior of these tires there are two spirally wrapped steel belts that provide enhanced handling, enhanced ride quality, a stable tread area and increased high speed capability while minimizing weight. Internally you can also find hard rubber sidewall filler and a fabric cord body that blends uniform ride quality and steering response with lateral stability.
